Re: [Simply Computers] Scripts

Brendan's reply was very well written, but I'd like to add that there have
been some huge advancements in the speed of browsers, and web designers are
building more richly interactive sites to take advantage of this fact. If
you aren't already using the latest version of Google Chrome or Firefox,
upgrade and not only will your problem go away, it will make your web
browsing experience better.

Re: [Simply Computers] Hosting game problem

This is totally on topic. It does sound like an issue related to how
routers share your connection with multiple computers using "Network
Address Translation". Depending on the game, there may be a workaround.
What's the game?

Re: [Simply Computers] Multimedia Computer problems here .

If it generally takes about an hour or two, it could be overheating. If
it's a desktop, try opening it up and blowing a giant fan onto it to to see
if that helps make the problem go away.

Re: [Simply Computers] My new Acer AM3970-ES30P what to do first?

If you have used your credit card to purchase anything, it's highly likely
that your credit card has already been transferred over the Internet. The
fact is that most regular stores use a payment system called Verisign which
just happens to be owned by PayPal. When you swipe your card at the grocery
store or at Macys, your card number is flying across the country atop the
Internet to a central clearing house for the company you are paying.

If you are really concerned about something, be concerned about handing
your card to a waiter at a restaurant because he walks away into a back
room with everything he needs to clone your card-- no security but your
trust.

PayPal is an extremely reputable payment processor that provides you a
bunch of additional protection over nearly any other way you could use your
card.

Re: [Simply Computers] HELP!

After working a few hours on the machine,in this case a format was the solution...
It depends how many hours a client want to pay me for...In this case my GF told me to wipe it... It was a freebie either way for her and me .

I'm curious what you mean here. What exactly was the failure? Was there an
error message?

Re: [Simply Computers] HELP!

For the most part, I agree with your point, but sometimes working for days
to fix an infested machine is more valuable than paving only to find out
something crucial wasn't backed up. It's important to ensure that the
person is absolutely comfortable that he or she has a path back to the data
before going to this extreme solution.

Re: [Simply Computers] Scripts

scripts are a series of instructions in a particular language (usually
javascript on web pages) that give much more functionality than just HTML.

as an example:

<script type="text/javascript>
alert("this is a message box!")
</script>

The above script would display a little text box that would have the text
"this is a message box!" in it. There are ways to block such things
(noscript (https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/noscript/) for
firefox, notscript (
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/odjhifogjcknibkahlpidmdajjpkkcfn)
for chrome) but doing so would usually end with a lot of pages no longer
working.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Javascript might help you to give a better
understanding of it :)

Hope this helps a little bit

[Simply Computers] Hosting game problem

Hi All,

I hope this topic is allowed here. If not please let me know.

I have a PC game that I can host as multiplayer online and have people join my room. That all works great. The problem I am having is that I have another PC here that family members want to play in my multiplayer games and cannot join. the game on the other PC tells them that they cannot join at this time try again later and my ping shows as 9999. The other PC can join other rooms in the game, just not mine. Well try again later has gone on for about 2 years now with no change. I have looked at the game website and many others for a solution, with no luck. From what I have seen on some of the websites is that it is a modem/router issue, because we are behind the same modem/router. I have a Netgear B90-755025-15 modem/Router that I just received from the phone company. I had hopes that the new router would solve this problem. Though that is not why I got a new one. I don't know a thing about ports, so any help would need to be step by step. I don't know if I can name the game on the group or not, It would pobably be hard to help me without that info. just let me know and if it's OK I will. It is an older game from 2008.

Host PC
emachines ET1161-07
Vista Home Premium 32bit
AMD Athlon dual core processor 4050e 2.10 GHz
3.0GB Ram

Other PC
Compaq Presario SR5233WM
Vista Home Premium 32bit
Intel Pentium D 2.8GHz
4.0GB ram

Thanks in advance for any help.

[Simply Computers] Multimedia Computer problems here .

I'm having issues with my multi-media pc that connects directly to my tv via hdmi. Specs on my computer are:

PHENOM II X4 840 Boxed Processor quad core
8 gig Ram
64 Bit Windows 7 ultimate
Ati 5400 I gig Video with HDMI out

When I stream some hi-def files or mkv files 1080p or 780p after about an hour and a half, my sound starts breaking up very badly.
The thing is when I play directly from my blue ray or my tv source, this doesn't happen. I have updated all drivers. My hdmi is of course carrying my sound and video. I even added an extra side case fan thinking perhaps the video card was overheating. That didn't seem to help. I just built this computer recently so I'm trying to figure out if it's the computer or my receiver. I upgraded my hdmi cables to the more current high speed usb cables. This didn't seem to help. Last night when it happened, I shut off my receiver and turned on the tv speaker and it sounded fine. After about one minute, I turned the receiver back on and the sound was fine. I am hoping someone here has a computer set up that streams like mine and perhaps can offer some advice. At this point, I'm stumped.

I would appreciate any advice.
