Dave-- Some questions:
What OS are you restoring?
Did you reformat?
Do the problems occur after restore, but before the virus checks?
What have you installed after restoration?
What Browser are you using?
What Virus checkers did you use?
Did you reload any drivers?
You used the plural about the restore disks; where did you get them, and why
more than one?

Hi,

in my experience an improper overclocking/under-clocking of GPU/CPU will
loose its performance and stability.
please try the following if you didn't do this before.

uninstall directx and uninstall graphics driver
then do a fresh installation of directx and graphics driver with latest
updates.
Make sure your signal cables for monitor is properly connected and not
damaged.
