Peggie your need the original CD for the computer to load the drivers on
because when you formatted you got rId of them. If you do not have the CDs
you will need to download them from the web. You need to know what
motherboard or sound card you have or the make of the computer to know what
site to go to.

Subject: [The Computer Hardware Technician] VAIO PCV-RS220 No sound
Windows XP Home
Recently formatted and installed OS
Had a virus and sound
Now the sound properties say that the drivers are all installed but there is
a problem. I have tried using the onboard sound and I also tried a good
working pci sound card. Same results. No yellow exclamations marks or
question marks.
Speakers work on another computer.
Suggestions, please. Thanks.
I am pretty good and building, rebuilding and troubleshooting most computers
I am stumped!

[Simply Computers] Re: Dial up or broadband
Perhaps he should explain the situation to the IT reps at the school and ask for advice from them.

Re: [Simply Computers] Dial up or broadband
He needs to use Windows XP to do his homework so he has to be able to
connect from home. However, I'm sure that he hasn't thought about
that. I know I hadn't. I check with him when he gets home today and
see. Thanks for the heads up Roger.

Re: [Simply Computers] 32 bit or 64 bit
32 bit machines support up to 4GB of RAM ONLY, not even close to 64GB of
RAM. 64 bit limits RAM to something unbelievably large that will likely
never be used (although saying that in tech is a big no no :P - cue the
"640K of RAM" quote hehe).
