Re: [Simply Computers] Installing Java to learn programming in Java

I'm a professional Java software developer. I spend most of my work day in Eclipse, a free and opensource development environment. I think it's one of the (if not THE) most popular development environments for Java developers - from those writing desktop applications, to web applications, to Android applications.

The version of Eclipse you use depends on the type of application development you are going to be doing, but well over 90% of Java applications are web sites, I'll assume that's what your going to be doing, but I also assume you WON'T be doing EE development - something you'd be doing in a group of more than 5 developers.

You'll need The Java Development Kit (JDK) version 1.6:
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html

Then, you'll need Eclipse:
http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/packages/eclipse-ide-java-developers/heliossr2

Let us know if you need help installing or using these.
