I wouldn't buy it personally. The trial version of McAfee is the first thing I remove from a Dell
computer. Then I install the free Microsoft Security Essentials unless the client wants a specific
antivirus program.
There's really no need to pay for an antivirus program unless you have more faith in it that way.
That's okay too if that's your preference, but the free ones do an excellent job. You can't go far
wrong with either MSE, AVG Free, Avast, AntiVir, Comodo Antivirus etc. They're all good - and all
free.
There's a list of links for these in the group Wiki:
http://ratamacu.freeshell.org/SimplyComputersWiki/wiki.php/Main/WhyIsMyComputerActingFunny
except the AVG link should be: http://free.avg.com/us-en/download-avg-anti-virus-free
By the way, if you're removing McAfee, I'd advise doing it thoroughly so that you don't run into
problems installing another antivirus program.
First download McAfee's own removal tool from their website - MCPR.exe, and save that to a folder
somewhere:
http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=CS41013&lc=&pf=1
You'll see the download link in step 2.
Uninstall McAfee first in Programs and Features in the Control Panel. After that, don't restart the
computer immediately which it asks you to do. Instead, run the removal tool to clear out all the
remnants of McAfee left in the registry etc. The tool is more or less a final cleaner. Then restart
the computer to finish off the job completely.
