Well done Jeanne! You're a resourceful lady. Quite a job wasn't it. I don't think you'll be in a
hurry to do that again ;-) There are other ways to deal with an IRC worm. I hope your son is
suitably grateful for all the effort you've put in!
A word of advice in addition to Bryce's useful image back-up tip:
If you ever feel the urge again, it's a good idea to back up all your drivers first before
formatting, using a free driver program. There are a few programs available. Then you just point
Windows in the direction of the drivers on the flash drive or external hard drive if need be. Saves
a lot of time (now he tells me....).
Secondly, you never actually said if you have a separate video card installed or if you're using the
standard integrated video. If you have say, an NVidia or ATI Radeon card like the ones listed in the
4600 drivers section, it's best to go to the manufacturer's site and download the most recent
driver. The standard video drivers offered on the Dell website are pretty old, mostly 2003 or 2004.
Or you can let NVidia scan your system if you have an NVidia card and it will automatically select
the correct driver. If your son plays games on the computer, he'll need the latest driver.

To find out exactly which video card you have installed, you can download the freeware version of a
good hardware analysis program like SIW and it'll tell you everything about the hardware inside the
computer, including the video card:
