Hi Roger,
Thanks for the input. The reason I asked is because my old computer has Windows XP and when I would see it act a little different or slow, I found that by using Disc Cleanup, it ran smoother. I did not know if there was any rule of thumb on the subject, but your explanation was very clear.
I will take your advice and add a spyware.

Rule of thumb:
1) Never!
2) Ok, maybe that was a bit harsh, but let's face it ... Disk Cleanup is for computers with hard drives that are almost full, or are beginning to act weird. Your computer is new, so I presume it has a hard drive that you're thinking you will never fill up!
3) so maybe a good rule of thumb is to wait until the computer is acting strangely (it will ...give it time) and then you can start suspecting that maybe you have too many cookies, Temporary Internet Files, etc., and start doing a Disk Cleanup.
But meanwhile, you've got 16 gazillion Gigabytes to use ... Enjoy!
ps ... keep your Antivirus and Antispyware software up-to-date ...that's way more important.
