Its used for advanced things like overclocking the video card, advanced
graphics settings like Anti-aliasing, Anisotropic filtering and other
stuff that 99% of users never need or want to fiddle with.
Just go to the ATI website, get the latest version of the driver package
for your video card and install it. That should fix the updater issue.
FWIW I do not recommend the use of automatic driver updaters - they tend
to cause more issues than they solve -and its just useless software
running in the background. Once my drivers are installed, I do not
update them unless I start having a problem with them. On my systems,
only Windows Update is automatic.
