What is it you want to do? Do you want to install the new drive into the
system? Have you checked your specific computer model to ensure it can run a
2TB drive?
Assuming your machine can run the drive an easier method might be to install
the new drive into the system and reinstall the OS. I'm assuming the new
drive is a serial drive while the old one is IDE? I'm hoping your system can
run the SATA drive. You might want to open the box and see what you have in
terms of available connections.
You also mentioned the drive won't boot. How have you verified a drive
failure?
If you could give us a bit more information we might be able to walk you
through a repair without the extra cables.

Subject: [Simply Computers] updating hard drive issues
ImHotep,
I have an IDE drive inside my Hewlett Packard Media Center PC 800 which no
longer boots.
I bought a new 2TB Western Digital Green. I have been informed that in
order for the new drive to talk to my old PC with Vista 32bit SP2, I need to
buy a IDE TO SATA PCI CARD.
I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT IF I WANT TO retrieve the data from the old IDE drive I
will need to purchase something called a 33in USB 2.0 to IDE or Serial ATA
Drive Adapter Cable.
Can you refer me to companies that sell high quality products like the two
named above?
Thank you very much.
