Enter either of these in Google's search box, and see what a difference
it makes, especially to a dummy like me who'd entered "check disk" in
Google, and obediently entered the word 'volume' 'as directed' in the
instructions at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315265
<http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315265> with the resultant error
message ;-).
'Experimentally' I entered 'chkdsk' as the search term, and was
directed to something like
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs\
/en-us/chkdsk.mspx?mfr=true
<http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddoc\
s/en-us/chkdsk.mspx?mfr=true> , where it finally dawned on me that
when the word volume was displayed in italics, it meant "depending on
which volume".
Afaic, I do think Microsoft could have been a bit less opaque in it's
#315265, but think my experience illustrates the value of what others
here have said about poking around in the e-search environement with
it's many itty-bitty details, details, details.
TGIF!!
