Pre-packaged computer systems from major companies buy monitors in bulk at lowest possible prices from whoever makes acceptable ones. And those monitor makers buy the cover glass to LCD and LED monitor screens from whoever supplies acceptable glass for the lowest price.
I am pretty sure that the costs drive the type of cover glass at any one time. This may be true as well for the makers of monitors who sell directly to the technology chain stores and mail order firms.

The images pop much more on a glossy screen. It's like the difference between a glossy print and a matte print. Are the glossy monitors still available in ordinary retail outlets like Sams Club, Costco etc.?
