You may need to put the hidden partition back on the hard drive with RomPac floppy tool, some of my old Compaqs needed that utility BIOS software on the hard drive to help diagnose itself.
If it has an USB port try a Linux Live CD externally to help troubleshot the laptop. If the BIOS can't boot from USB, I'd try a Hiren's Boot CD using the PLoP boot menu program...there are boot programs that run from floppy, too.
