[Simply Computers] Re: Compaq Evo N1000C

Well, the laptop may just be no good, and you may not be able to fix it without major repairs (replace the motherboard)

But, assuming that the computer worked before you got it, then something you installed may be incompatible. This is what I would do:

Remove the hard drive.

Remove one memory stick and try to boot the computer. (It does not need a hard drive to boot.)

If it still doesn't work, I would take out the one memory board and put in the other. Try to boot it.

If still no good, take out both memory sticks and try to boot. The computer should not boot with no memory, but it might give you a different indication of what the problem is.

ps. the flashing light may be an error code (such as incompatible memory) which you can look up in the user manual, which you might be able to download from the Compaq (HP) website.

definitely take out the hard drive and try swapping the memory. let us know what happens.

I bought 1 gb of memory for it and a new hard drive from ebay where I got reassured it would fit the laptop. I installed both and the power button turns on and nothing else happens. I'm stuck. The battery light keeps flashing tho (With or without the battery)..i tried to look up troubleshooting and it said to unplug the laptop and take out the battery and press the power button for 30 seconds and then plug back in the laptop only..Still no luck and the battery light blinks rapidly still..I can't even get the cd rom drive to open either so I can install a fresh copy of windows xp on it..Any help would be grateful..
