I use Acronis True Image Home and yes, it is necessary to create some sort of rescue media to use in case of a disaster. It makes sense because if you can't boot from your machine, you need a way to get to the recovery software so it can do its thing.
Acronics, and maybe some others, has a Recovery Media builder built in to the software. You can create bootable media on CD/DVD, external hard drive, or Flash Drive if you savvy enough.
I've created bootable CD/DVD's with the Acronis Media Builder, and also learned how to make a Windows PE disk using BART PE.
It's a learning experience, and takes some time and patience to master for a neophyte like me.

Subject: [Simply Computers] Re: Backup restore disk
Hi Vincent,
How familiar are you with the Restore function of these programs?
It seems like when I tried to restore from Easeus Todo backup, I first had to make a WinPE bootable disk or something, which was something extra I had to learn how to do.
Has that changed?
thanks

BUT - I would really feel more comfortable if I could find a way to create a restore/reinstall disk disk for the important stuff that is on this computer, especially since it is a Media Center OS. Can you please tell me what I need to do or where I can get step by step instructions that I can print out and keep in a separate file. I have disks and backups everywhere but I would love to have this machine's works on one disk (or two).
