I'm using Google Chrome.
As of a few days ago (at least for me), Google started defaulting to instant
search, where the results show up the moment you type any letter (what's the
point of still having the blue magnifying-glass button?). I do not have
Instant/Omnibox enabled in Wrench:Options:Basics:Search (a forum indicates
Instant is turned off if you use this URL to access Google:
<http://www.google.com/webhp?complete=0&hl=en>
http://www.google.com/webhp?complete=0&hl=en). I mention this because I
think it might be related to the issue I'm asking about.
For years, I could place a minus sign in front of words surrounded with
quotation marks to eliminate unwanted results (such as -"video converter").
But now Google doesn't seem to recognize that protocol (a minus sign still
works for a single word but not for words in quotes). I know I can use
Advanced Search for this, but it's slow and cumbersome. I'd rather just use
minus signs with quotation marks. Is there a setting I can tweak for this?
By the way, the technique still works in Bing.
Thanks, SB
