Maybe my old tired eyes are missing it, but did the original poster state
what operating system they are running? Isn't there some type of restriction
for IE9 - like it won't run on Windows XP? Sorry if this has been covered
already.

I think IE9 is better but that is admittedly subjective. I tend to upgrade
to new versions readily as each one seems to offer some advancements
particularly with security and sometimes with features.
I like Opera and use it but find that with multiple open tabs it tends to
hog resources, much like Firefox - IMHO. But then I also tend to run
browsers with lots of open tabs.
With respect to upgrades I like the fact that software developers are
continually working on perfecting their product.
I tend to think that loading pages is probably more favorable to the extent
you're running a clean machine with reasonable ram and a decent internet
connection speed.
I can't answer your questions regarding yahoo mail or IM. I don't use it.
