I only pay $9.95 a month for the dial up. Our phone company is privately owned. Which is why we can't get anything except DSL which they charge $50 a month for. We are on a fixed income so $50 is a lot. I have checked everywhere and no one offers anything else here. There is only 3 dial up companies that offer service with local access. We are in the dark ages here.

It might be more affordable than you think. How much are you paying for
dial-up service? And who is your local phone provider? Many of the
telephone companies have special, unadvertised 'bottom of the barrel'
broadband service, that you usually have to specifically ask for - AT&T
for instance, has a special 20 dollar (or is it 10?) DSL service, and
also a 'naked' DSL (no phone service, just the DSL line) service thats
only 20 bucks.
