Hi,
I use Forte Free Agent as a news (alt.*) reader and it concatenates
threads. That is, from the original post you get a cascade of replies
each of which is shown beneath the msg that is being responded to. If
both B and C respond to an original post by A then B and C occupy the
first indented tier below A. If E then responds to B and F responds
to C they are displayed beneath and indented to the secondary msg
being responded to.
This way you have a visual tree of all responses to the original. I
don't know (haven't looked into it) if Forte can be used to read
Yahoo Group posts.
OTOH, when I view these posts online in my Gmail account, threads are
sorted by user name!
For email - and this group - I still use Eudora - the last paid
edition. I understand that it is much like Thunderbird but I have
never had a reason to change. I particularly like the fact that much
of the underpinning files are text based.
