Many thanks for the sensible reply. I tried the uninstall/install route again. Unfortunately the computer then came up with the message 'unable to find folder' (or something similar even though it was looking for the install disc in the disc drive with the disc actuallyb in the drive)! Sooooo
I bit the bullet and did a restore to factory settings (I didn't have a decent recovery point set up). While this may sound drastic I am fortunate in that my hard drive is partitioned about 50/50 and I automatically save EVERYTHING I want to keep to drive D and so all I lost was the programs which I had discs for any way.
- Hence the delay in getting back to you. So far (touch wood) everything appears to be working OK (apart from the keyboard set-up ... see my latest ask for help.
