Dave--
There are some obvious factors here; You are re-installing your troubles. To
fix this, you MUST avoid your existing media. (Except for the restore
partition) Also, how can you have a full hard drive if you have re-formatted
it?
Do a re-install from the back-up partition.
Get and install Chrome or Firefox. Use it. You can go back to IE8 later.
Get a NEW installation of a Virus program. Use it to test individual
additional installations.
Test and Stop at the first problem.
Tell us.
