A router is an add on to give you more than one ethernet cable port so
you can connect more than one computer to your internet access line.
The modem gives you that access line and a single ethernet port, so you
can plug that into a single computer if you wish and use it as the only
connection.
System Restore will not delete any of your documents like pictures or
music or test documents. But any programs you have installed or any
other changes you have made since the restore point will be gone.
