[Simply Computers] Can you damage a laptop by using it with no battery?

 

In an effort to determine why this box was getting so hot, I ran the unit
with no battery.
Now I have put the battery back in because it did not seem to make a
difference.

But things are very slow now. Did the no battery operation hurt this thing.
