[Simply Computers] Re: COMPUTER STILL SHUTS DOWN

Liz,

On another note, when computers used to have System failures, they would display an error screen that was blue background with white letters (called the Blue Screen of Death -BSOD)

The only way to get out of a BSOD was to pull the plug or hold the power button in long enough that the computer shut down.

People complained about that, so now computers have a setting to "Automatically Restart" on a System Failure.

(For the next suggestions, you will need to change your View in Control Panel from "Category" to "Icons")

You can find this setting (in Win 7) in Control Panel, System, Advanced System Settings. Click the "Settings" button under Startup and Recovery.

If you un-check the Automatically Restart box, and click OK, the next time the computer crashes it should go into the BSOD, at which time you will be able to copy down the error code (0x000005e or whatever) and then look that up on Google for a possible solution.

Please note that some of the error codes are generic, so you may find that the solution could be anything!

You can also look in Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer for any error messages.
