I could use your help in determining how to flash the new drive, which the computer does not recognize.
I ran DISCInfo.exe with the old drive in the computer and this is what it said on the face page:

Windows XP control panel has this under the drive details:

I cannot tell you what the new drive is because the computer doesn't recognize it when it's installed and DISCINFO cannot find it. As far as Windows is concerned, the drive doesn't exist. but it is the same model number as the old drive and is made by Matshita. BTW, both drives are called Panasonic on the labels.

I found this web page:

and it seems to have flashes for changing the cable/select to slave but I am not sure if any of these apply to this case. For one thing, it says Toshiba drives but I don't think Toshiba made its own optical drives, otherwise why would this one have Panasonic in it.

My fear is that, if I do find the flash drive, how will Windows know to look for the unidentified drive on the computer?

Finally, it is an IDE drive. This is an older laptop. I probably shouldn't be wasting time on upgrading the drive but I like this screen and it does what I want.
