Thank you Roger. I found a loose little piece of plastic in the computer. I guess I broke it off in trying to extract the pieces of paper, although I did not hear anything snap. I have now bought a new printer, again. This one lasted 6 months. The previous one lasted a year. I am getting the replace-warrantee. Printers have heavy use in my house so I will entertain any suggestions on what to get for heavy useage.

A piece of the first paper that was torn may still be stuck in the printer, causing the others to misalign and tear.
