There are some preparatory things I would suggest:
Save valuables to a portable external drive.
Backup drivers.
Have all reinstall materials ready.
Make a list of must do things after the reinstall (e.g., updates,
anti-virus, firewall, anti-malware, etc.).
Others will dawn on me.

I have 3 restore CDs that I got when I first got my laptop in 09, but I've
never used them. I suppose it's just a matter of putting the CDs in and
following the prompts? Or is there more to it than that in reinstalling
Vista?
