Hi Spud
I'm not sure what you mean by upgrading HDMI to the new high speed USB cables. They're not the same thing.
It sounds like you're running HDMI from the video card output of your computer into a stereo receiver, and then the audio out from the receiver to its speakers, and the video out to your tv, is that correct?
So the question is, is the distortion caused by the receiver or the computer?
How is the audio supplied to the tv when you "shut off the receiver and turned on the tv speakers" ? Are you shutting off the receiver, or just turning down the audio to the speakers.
Are you still streaming from the computer?
Are you connected via HDMI to the receiver, and another HDMI from the receiver to the tv? When the distortion starts, can you turn down the receiver speakers and turn up the tv speakers without turning off the receiver? If the distortion stops, it is in the audio ouput stage of the receiver.
Can you bypass the receiver's audio and plug directly into the tv? (leave the HDMI connected for video, but just use standard audio cables for the sound. I have a computer plugged via HDMI directly into my TV. When I plug an audio cable into the audio ouput jack, it bypasses the HDMI.)
You probably prefer the audio from the receiver speakers, but this is just a test.
Can you plug the HDMI cable from the computer directly into the tv to see if the distortion happens?

I even added an extra side case fan thinking perhaps the video card was overheating. That didn't seem to help. I just built this computer recently so I'm trying to figure out if it's the computer or my receiver. I upgraded my hdmi cables to the more current high speed usb cables. This didn't seem to help. Last night when it happened, I shut off my receiver and turned on the tv speaker and it sounded fine. After about one minute, I turned the receiver back on and the sound was fine. I am hoping someone here has a computer set up that streams like mine and perhaps can offer some advice. At this point, I'm stumped.
