I realize that this is a computer group and that I have a phone problem but
this is the last place I will seek advice before I throw away this phone.
I ebayed a sciphone i486. When it arrived I slid in my AT&T simm. This is
a prepaid go phone chip.
The phone would make and receive telephone calls and surf the net but the
surfing would use up some minutes on my plan. The idea behind this phone
was to use it as a wifi device and avoid the charges to my account.
So I fiddled with the phone and of course did not write down what I was
changing in the process. Be careful what you wish for. Now it is great as
a wifi device but when I try to place a call, I get the not allowed to dial
error.
This is not an uncommon error. If you google the thing, you will find a lot
of people with this problem but only a handful who have "fixed" it and their
fixes do not work on my phone.
So, I am hoping that somebody on this list has been through the same problem
and can direct me toward getting the phone side of the thing to function
again. If not, I am going to throw the thing right in the trash.
Thanks for reading.
