[Simply Computers] HP officejet 6500 e709a trouble

 

My printer will not print. ( Now it also will not shut down. ) It makes the sound as though it it warming up but displays "general printer error 061011bec. Refer to printer documentation."

Printer documentation only addresses the fax portion of the machine.
It also states that it cannot align the cartridges.
So I am having a problem apparently with aligning my cartridges. I went to the site offered by a very good computer friend:
HP Officejet 6500 (E709a) and 6500 wireless (E709n and E709q) all in one print.
I could follow all instructions until I got to clicking on printer toolbox and it does nothing. Cannot go from there to complete the last instructions.
Does anyone else have this printer and have you had and fixed the problem? Is the printer beyond repair?
