Roger,

I tried to boot with the Linux disk and I still get nothing. Now I remember Ubunto as being a Red Hat Linux program that favored windows.

So, I guess that it must be the motherboard or power supply. Just kind of weird that it went bad right in the middle of installing Vista. Could there be anything causing the problem since I used Red Hat installation first which never completed installation, then the Dell Vista recovery disk?

I'll test the power supply with an ohmmeter to see if I have the right voltage coming out of the plug and if so will go looking for a hard drive for the Acer Aspire 4330 if my friend wants to pay for it. Being retired you don't have all that "fun money" you used to have when you were still working....LOL
