Well done! on disconnecting the internal keyboard and using an external.
As for adding 10 seconds to the timer, why?
Seems like that would only make it wait 10 seconds longer than it already does.
I think my suggestion was (or should have been) setting the timer to zero.
but I see you already gave the computer back to him, so maybe next time ...
