Re: [Simply Computers] Re: more memory ?

My operating system is Vista Home Premium, not XP. Vista doesn't have the
slider.
Dorothy

I didn't see where you noted your operating system but believe it to be XP.

I'm just adding to the suggestions from others.

IMO, the default storage space for the Recycle Bin and System Restore are
set way too high. My preference for the Recycle Bin is 2% and for System
Restore 4%. With those settings you will get another 16% space of free space
on each of your partitions. Others might have there own favorites settings
but 2% and 4% work fine for me.

To change the Recycle Bin settings, right click on the desktop icon and then
click on Properties. Move the slider from 10% to 2%.

Before changing the System restore setting go to Disk Cleanup on each
partition. Open Windows Explorer and starting with the C partition right
click on it, then on Properties, and on the General tab click on Disk
Cleanup, then click on the More Options tab. At the bottom you'll see System
Restore, click on the Clean Up bar and then click Yes to the "Are you sure"
question. Then click OK and Yes to the next question.

Then reset the System Restore default size. Right click on the My Computer
icon on the desktop, click on Properties and then the System Restore tab.
Highlight each drive separately, click on the Settings bar and then move the
slider from 12% to 4%.

After you have done all the cleaning and resetting do a defrag.

I/We(?) would be curious about what you're free space was before and then
what it is after all the cleaning and resetting, particularly on the C
partition.
