I don't see why I should waste my time or tie up my phone for them. I just
don't
answer any call that I don't recognize on caller ID. If it's someone I
know, they
can leave a message and I screen the call.

Keep a whistle by the phone - blow it as soon as the telemarketer starts
talking. OR - act interested and say 'hold on a second'. Then set the
phone down (don't hang it up) and go about your business.
