I doubt very much that the absence of he battery hurt anything. In fact, it
sounds like it is on its way out; It may be what is slowing things down.
Most people keep a battery in from Habit and ignorance. Of course, there are
real benefits: they "buffer" from power glitches, and also make it possible
to move at any time, without needing to plan ahead to charge the battery.
The battery went somewhat bad on my Wife's Third-tier laptop, so I took it
out. Its been out for about a year, and the machine still works fine. It is
a low memory antique Lenovo, but it will run some "Legacy" graphics and
embroidery programs, so I will keep it running.
