I would not remove IE. In the past, I think it could cause you grief with your Windows installation if you tried to remove it.
As well as Firefox, take a good look at Google's Chrome browser. It's streamlined and easy. It automatically keeps itself up to date by itself. I used Firefox for some time. After I tried Chrome, I quickly deleted Firefox. Here's the link to Chrome:

It is very easy to switch to Firefox.......you do not need to remove IE......just download Firefox and run the program. It will even import your favorite from IE

I am having a problem with IE.
It does not go to Amazon without a lot of page not available pop ups.
Sometimes over 20 before finally opening.
Seems I am not the only one with this problem.
Can I switch to Firefox?
How?
Do I have to get rid of IE first?
I am not computer literate, and my children and grandkids do not live close by. So no help available.
Since I am an e-reader, Amazon is one of my most frequently used sites.
