On the other hand, if you want to get real Geeky, you can try "XP Mode for Windows", which is different from just the regular Compatibility mode.
You're probably running Window 7 Home. If you want to pay to upgrade your version of Windows 7 to Windows 7 Professional (the business version), you can download XP for free from Microsoft. It will run in a window on top of Windows 7.
Whether you can resize the window to take-up your full monitor size, I don't know.
You will also need a computer that supports hardware virtualization. More info on that here:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/install-and-use-windows-xp-mode-in-windows-7
Be sure to read the article all the way through. You will need to run the tests that are recommended, to see if your computer can use XP mode in Windows 7.
If your computer does not support virtualization in hardware, you can still download Virtual Machine software, like Oracle's free Virtualbox.
This will open a window on top of Windows 7 where you can load your XP operating system.
Again, you will need a Microsoft Windows XP CD, not a recovery CD from a computer manufacturer.
Virtualbox also may or may not run full screen, depending on the display hardware you have.
