Yes I agree, XP SP3 will do and more compatible for SD RAM,
you will have to run a new installation on a new Hard disc or a formatted
hard disc
For it to run smooth, make sure to back up the hardware drivers,
otherwise you can download them, and also the updates to get the unit up for
best performance.
That should help you to use the web and your gmail, because 512 mb of ram,
you should give the hard disc more room to operate,
and you can always have your music and videos on an external hard drive or
add another hard disc.
