There have been 5 Samsung Galaxy S phones on T-Mobile USA, and I think this is the list in order they came out:
1. The Samsung Vibrant
2. The Samsung Galaxy S 4g
3. The Google Nexus S
4. The Samsung Galaxy S 2
5. The Google Galaxy Nexus
Confusing Right? I assume that you have a Galaxy S 2, which only came out in the last month or so. What you are talking about is called "tethering" your phone to your computer. Typically, this is done using wifi such that your phone uses the 3g modem to talk to the cellular company and then acts as a wifi "hotspot" or "router" so that your other computers/tablets/etc can connect to the Internet through your phone.
If that feature is already enabled, and t-mobiel advertises it is ( http://t-mo.co/urtNri ), here is a video that explains how to do this:

If T-Mobile has disabled this feature, then you'll need to root (hack) your device to turn this functionality on. There are a ton of advantages to installing a custom third-party ROM on your phone, notably that the phone will be more stable and faster, not to mention it will have more features. The most popular third-party ROM is called CyanogenMod. It's really tricky to install, so I would only advice advanced users attempt to install it:

I have the Samsung Vibrant with CyanogenMod 7.1 installed. It's WAY better than the stock Vibrant.
