you still do not need to accept using the trial version....when the free version updates it offers you the opportunity to use the trial version.....all you need to do is simply click the "Decline" button

The normal free version of Malwarebytes does not offer any real time
protection--all it can do is clean up an infected machine after the
fact. They have recently started offering a 30 day trial version of the
real time protection in the hope that you will like it and continue
using it as a paid product. After the 30 day trial is up. you will
start getting that error message unless you subscribe. I don't often
urge my customers to pay for anything, but this software package is so
good I hope the designers of it are able to stay in business, and they
need paid subscribers to do so.
