There can be various reasons for this - McAfee, Norton, firewalls etc. but one of the common causes
is when 'Password protected sharing' is turned on in Vista or Windows 7.
If you haven't specifically set your network up to work with passwords, this should be disabled.
Since you didn't mention using these, is this switched off in Advanced sharing settings on the Win 7
computer?
