A lot of your posts seem to have "Cryptic" content, leaving a lot to be only
guessed at. The latest thing to puzzle me is the reference to "downloaded a
copy of IE8" that you think is not like the original. You don't say the
source of the new copy, or, for that matter, the older one. If both copies
came from MS, there should be little difference; if they came from different
sources, you should not be surprised at failures. After the download and
install, did you check for available updates? What version numbers were
they? What did you do about registry entries?
Where did you get this copy that is different?
