Hi Ardell,
I believe (at the point you mentioned) Windows is trying to switch video drivers from the built in VGA one it uses to boot with, to the one associated with the display adapter.
Does it boot to Safe Mode, which is VGA? You might be able to reload the video driver in Safe Mode with Networking, which will allow you to download a new driver from the Internet.
I know you only like to do a reinstall as a last resort, so I won't mention that. <g>
