Re: [Simply Computers] Bad dial up connection

Hi Mollie

You said that you changed your "phone line", but there's a difference between the actual phone lines (the wires from the Phone Company to your house) and the short connecting wire between your modem and the phone outlet in your wall.

We usually refer to the "phone lines" as the ones from the Phone Company to your house, (and from there to the wall outlet).

You changed the short connecting wire from your modem to the wall outlet, but there's much more to the circuitry than that.

The fact that you did not detect any line noise is significant, but not conclusive. You can still request the Phone Company to do a "loopback test", which will give them an indication of any line problems that you didn't detect.

Finally, it may actually be your modem which has gone bad. The only way to test that is to try another modem. In your case, that may mean buying a new modem and trying it.

Sorry, but buying a new modem may be the solution.

let us know how it goes ....

Sorry, I was clicking the reply to group at the end of the email instead of just replying to the email. In answer to all, I changed my phone line and nothing happened. I cant hear any static in my phone line. And having to reconnect 20/30 times has got old. Thank you all for your input.
