Beep sounds are often a code that tell you what is wrong with the computer.

Is it a continuous beep, beep, beep, or multiple beeps, then a pause?

You can look up the "beep codes" in the User Manual for the computer, which is usually downloadable from the Support section of the computer manufacturer's web site.
