Open task manager (ctrl-alt-del) and click the performance tab. If there
is one single graph you have a single core processor - if there are two
graphs (one above the other) then you have a dual core processor.

Yes, you can get RAM on Ebay, but I would not suggest doing so. Buy from
a reputable online vendor such as Newegg.

"Aero" is how Vista makes all the fancy window effects such as the
blurry transparency. It uses a lot of memory and a lot of CPU power.
You can turn it off to make your system more responsive:
