The big advantage of the PS3 is that it comes with a Blu-Ray player and is, in my opinion, better for streaming movies and other non-gaming stuff. Each has some games that the other doesn't have. If you plan to use your game console primarily for playing games, then I suggest starting with a list of games you would like to play, and then purchasing the platform that supports those games.
