I've had no problems with a FastStone Image Viewer executable file. When I'm working on a photo shoot, I don't make the executable. I just use it in the program, I can add to, make changes, experiment with sequence etc. When I'm ready to lock up what I'm going to finalize, I make the self contained executable. I make a quick slideshow complete with music for nearly every photography project I do. I save it with the project for later reference. I can give a copy to clients. I can put it on a flash drive when I need to make presentations away from home. It's a great piece of software in it's class. It gets the job done.

An ".exe" file is an executable file, ie, a program. Try double-clicking on
one.
