[The Computer Hardware Technician] DVD drives not copying

 

I have a compaq presarion. It runs WINXP. It's five or 6 years old.The dvd drive E stopped working.It would claim that the empty disks I put in it were full. I bought a NU brand dvd drive. It worked at first. Now when I try to get my computer to recognize the drive (I only plug it in when I need to use it)it says dvd drive f is not a function. However when I put a written disk in the portable drive F it will ask which program I want to use to open it. Anyone have an idea what needs to be done to correct this? Thanks for any advice.
