I think it's HP interlacing, maybe like Dell was infamous for? Try Chrome it's pretty fast and doesn't crash as often as Firefox, thank goodness for Session Manager on FF. Decrapify? Scan for malware?

I have Firefox on a laptop with WIN7 64 bit and it freezes for up to 6 mins. Have to use IE8 so it does not freeze as often. IE8 also freezes but not as often. It is a HP with i3 cpu.
