[Simply Computers] Re: OpenDNS Problem

Bill,

If you don't mind my butting in while you wait for an answer from Vince, Windows tries to speed-up searches by "indexing" certain folders. Like you said, the ones that Big Brother thinks you might want to find something in.

Go back to the Search box (called "Start menu Search" by Paul Thurrott) and type in:

index

You'll get links to lots of info on what folders are indexed, and how you can change them to include things like system folders, if you want to.

You'll also probably run across a warning .. indexing takes computer time (cpu cycles), and can slow your computer down if you have it continuously indexing your hard drive. Also, a large index file will take longer to search each time.

Anyway, you can modify the index settings based on what you might want to search for in the future.

You may also notice that when you do a search, there's a link at the bottom of the search box for "see more results", which will give you the option to search in other places than the ones designated.

If you searc for hosts, then select "more results", then tell it to search "Computer" ... it will find it.
